UP NORTH LODGE
It
was a beautiful day for a ride and club members came out
in record numbers for the May dinner ride to UP North
Lodge in Gwinn. Many cars met in Marquette and enjoyed
the ride together down M35 while still others joined us
there. Our social hour was extended since our group had
expanded from our reservation but no one seemed to care
as the owners and staff took great care of us. It was a
great time to get reacquainted after the long winter
months, sharing stories of winter travel, envying the
new cars in the club and meeting new members. The food
was awesome and no doubt one of the highlights of the
club calendar for the year!
TRIP TO THE STONEHOUSE RESTAURANT IN ESCANABA
While you wouldn’t know it from all the smiling faces
and clean corvettes, the trip to Escanaba and the
Stonehouse was made in a blinding rainstorm. One of the
C3’s made the trip with non-functional windows in the
down position! Now that is a die-hard Corvette family!
We won’t mention the name of the Air Force vet and
owner of that blue shark (who is still working on those
windows). Anyway, we didn’t picnic in the park as
planned, but had a great afternoon enjoying some indoor
sports at the local establishments.
BAY CLIFF HEALTH CAMP TRIP
You would have to have taken part to understand what a
wonderful experience it was to once again provide
Corvette rides to the kids at the Bay Cliff Health
Camp. The kids are ready to go the minute we arrive and
immediately pick out their favorite car! But, even more
rewarding are the kids that were there in prior years
and really look forward to being with various club
members. This year we had 13 cars make the run to
Big Bay.
And following the event Donna and Paul hosted a great
lunch at their beautiful home on
Lake
Independence.
9TH ANNUAL CLASSIC CAR SHOW AT SEAFOOD FEST
We would like to thank all the
outstanding volunteers that
participated in the Classic Car Show this year. We had
23 extraordinary helpers that made for an easy,
organized, and smooth running show. If you couldn't make
it to the lower harbor, you missed a great day, coffee,
donuts, home baked bread, 150 participants and a truly
successful show. Parking had some challenges and the
guys handled it beautifully. Participants were ready &
waiting for Registration that went quickly & without a
hitch. A lot of goodies and prizes were handed out
including rewards to our volunteers. Questions were
answered, ballots were counted, judging was accomplished
and trophies were awarded. We had excellent comments and
few complaints. You all pitched in when it was needed.
Thanks again to members and even those non-members that
helped us out.
We would like to especially thank
those who also helped with Rotary cleanup on Sunday. We
have become part of the Seafood Fest team and have had
great co-operation from Rotary. Both clubs have
benefited each other.
Next year is the 10th annual
show, so we want to 'kick it up a notch'...This
is the club's biggest event and fund raiser. See you
there.

FALL COLOR TOUR 2007
After a rainy and windy Friday night, Saturday morning September 22, dawned
with sunshine and blue skies. This turned out to be a perfect day for the LSCC
2007 Color Tour. Seven Corvettes of various vintages met in Harvey at Jack’s
Market and left at 11:45am. With the wind blowing in our hair and the sun
shining on our faces we followed M-28 to Munising and picked up Forest Highway
13. The leaves had just started to turn. There were some beautiful trees giving
us glorious reds and golds mixed in with the greens of the pines that made for a
colorful ride. Good thing the colors were starting to show otherwise this tour
could have been called the "Fall Smelly Tour" thanks to the four dead skunks we
encountered. I suppose the fella in that Black VW Touareg wanted to get away
from those odors and that’s why he passed all of us doing about 100!
At the end of FH13, we turned west and went to Mac’s Bar in Namah for a bite
to eat and liquid refreshments. Great burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads and
other goodies were devoured as we chatted and decided where to go from there and
if we would stick together or go our separate ways.
Most of us took off following Dennis and Nancy Henderson on a route that was
probably used in Dennis’s rabble-rousing days. I’m not sure anyone knew where we
were except Dennis! After gravelly roads, bumps and lots of dust we pulled into
the UP North Lodge for a drink to wet our parched throats. And no, no parts fell
off the white ’72.
This was a perfect end to a great day of driving and fellowship.
Hope everyone can join us next year!
SCAVENGER
HUNT
The Diva’s of Scavenge Yvonne Andersen, Linda Dionne and
Nancy Henderson once again plotted, planned, organized
and treated club members to a fun filled day. Thirteen
teams arrived at the start complete with their required
hats ready to challenge the reigning 2006 King William
and Queen Ragene. New members were filled with
anticipation and three year veterans of scavenge were
wondering what the Divas had cooked up this year!
Competition was fierce throughout the day with teams
traveling as far away as west Ishpeming gathering
required items and trying to be the first to return to
the party headquarters! Everyone arrived with their
hat, a shirt/top from their shopping trip to Goodwill
plus their glasses from Target. For the third straight
year, the first team to finish didn’t win the coveted
first prize award! When the points were totaled Karen
and Brian Nelson were awarded the coveted crowns for 1st
place followed very closely by Ann Beauchaine and Suzi
Clarke in 2nd place. 3rd place
went to Linda and Bill Richards who were also voted by
their peers for the best chicken dance at KFC and whose
picture somehow mysteriously disappeared from the
bulletin board. The top five finishers were very close
in points and in the end the top teams won because of
their long list of items at the Yooper Trap. Jean and
Larry Lawless reluctantly gave up the Red Lantern Award
and this year it was awarded to Dennis Henderson and
Gary Dionne who are still wondering what “Celestial
Dollar” means! Many thanks to Pat and Cory Finkbeiner
and Patrice and Bob Epps who helped the Divas at
Starbucks and KFC and joined us for the awards party.
The staff at the Holiday Inn provided a wonderful meal!
If you missed out on the fun this year, we hope you will
join in next year. As several members said “it’s the
highlight of the year”! Little did they know that the
Divas were already plotting new twists, new turns, and
new clues…………stay tuned for Scavenger 2008 which
promises to be even better!

LSCC Christmas Party 2007
Once again, the Lake Superior Corvette club had a
fantastic evening in the Skyroom at the Landmark Inn.
We enjoyed a social hour that included a good selection
of hors d’oeuvres, great company, a few beverages of
choice, and a fabulous view of the city and lower
harbor. As usual, the Landmark provided a first class
buffet that included brown sugar and cinnamon glazed
ham, roast turkey, and all of the extras.
After dinner and a short business meeting we were
challenged with some very interesting games! A creative
rendition of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” was acted
out by everyone at the party, with each playing a part
of the poem. Everyone was impressed by the acting
abilities of some of the members, especially the
“chimney”, the “moon on the breast of the new fallen
snow”, and the “eagle” (bald eagle?). In the “Guess who
I am” game, we had to guess which Christmas person,
place, or thing we were, according to the signs on our
backs. The third game was called “Lap Dance” because as
we answered questions and moved around the table, there
was often more than one person on a chair, which led to
some interesting interactions. First one back to
his/her own seat was the winner! The rewards for
successfully completing the games were envelopes which
contained a random selection of play money. An auction
of Corvette items followed. And, those with the most
money went home with their favorite gift.
The night wrapped up with a couple of great door
prizes provided by our primary sponsor, Frei Chevrolet.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
